Make Your Own Block Scratch Activity
How would you explain "Make a Block" to someone else?
Make a Block lets you create a block instead of copying the same script over and over.
When might you use "Make a Block"?
I would use "Make a Block" if I wanted to repeat a really long script.

Scratch Day 2 Blog Post #20
Here is the link to my 10 Block Challenge- http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/22932749/#editor
How does this activity help you learn Scratch?
This activity helped me learn Scratch by setting a boundary on what I could use. The ten block challenge gave me a little bit of everything to test out.
How does the 10 block restraint impact your ideas?
It impacts my ideas substantially. I felt like I couldn't be creative. I got frustrated. I did not like this challenge because I found it difficult.

Scratch Day 1 Blog Post #19
1. What was surprising about the activity?
The simplicity of the activity surprised me the most. When I tried to do Scratch during the problem solving unit, I got frustrated and gave up.
2. How did it feel to be led step-by-step through the activity?
It was so much better being led step-by-step. I felt more comfortable and I understood it.
3. As a learner (with Scratch and beyond), when do you like having more structure?
When do you like having more freedom?
When do you feel most creative?
I like having a lot of structure when I am faced with a big project that is worth a lot. Those are the things I need clear directions for. I want more freedom when doing smaller activities where things are simpler. I feel most creative with more freedom given to me.

HTML Webpage Blog Post #18
Here is the link to my webpage: M:\Computer Applications\HTML Webpage.html. I really liked the HTML webpage project as a whole. I had a lot of fun with it, got my creative juices flowing, but I still ran into problems. One problem I had was setting the background color. I kept getting the HTML wrong and it was really frustrating. Another problem I had was getting the layout just the way I wanted. I really had to pay attention to the height and width. It made me really annoyed and brought out my perfectionism. The final problem I had was the images. My two successes were the setup of all my mini sections within the webpage and the links. My favorite part about the project was that it was whatever you wanted it to be. It felt really personal.

About Me
Hello! My name is Vanessa Navin and I’m a sophomore at Reading Memorial High School. My favorite classes are English, History, and Spanish. These are the classes I am good at. I dislike math and chemistry because I am definitely not a math and science person. Obviously, I don’t get the best grades in these classes. Overall, I like my day to day life at RMHS.p>Friday, May 2, 2014
X-ray Goggles Blog Post #12
For my first x-ray goggles remix, I chose to make Tumblr.com all about me, complete with a selfie and narcissism. Here is a link to it: http://vnavin.makes.org/goggles/vnavins-remix-of-log-in-tumblr-2. For my second remix, I changed Twitter. I hate Twitter and think it's stupid. Here's a link to my remix of Twitter: http://vnavin.makes.org/goggles/vnavins-remix-of-twitter. My final remix was Instagram: http://vnavin.makes.org/goggles/vnavins-remix-of-instagram.

Is Eliza Human? Not really... Post #8
Programming Eliza to do what I wanted was very difficult. Computers are very wishy-washy which made it hard for me to make her say the things I wanted. Also, the Eliza program is highly sensitive to capitalization
and punctuation and when they weren't used or used in the wrong way it would get all up in arms. The course itself was very confusing and frustrating.
It kept saying invalid, but never told me how to fix it. Also, there
weren't really any directions so it was unclear on what I was suppose to
do. Whenever I tried to enter in my code, I never knew if I got it
wrong or right because I was confused by what to do. In conclusion, it was
very hard trying to program Eliza because the course instructions were very unclear
and computers in general are very picky and hypersensitive.

Scratch Holiday Card Post #7
This coding game was very frustrating. I did not enjoy it one bit. The instructions were not clear and I kept screwing up. I spent a half hour on it, but I finally had to stop because it was aggravating me so much. I couldn't get anything to work and nothing would go my way.

Lightbot Post #6
I thought Lightbotwas adorable. I really liked the way the program was set up, with all its obstacles. I feel the hardest things were the turns and jumps. You really needed to know what you were doing. Overall I thought it was a lighthearted, fun little game to pass the time. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Angry Birds Programming Game Post #5
After completing the 20 levels of the Angry Birds/Plants vs. Zombies programming maze game, I can say that it was a fun challenge. It started off very easy. However, it presented many challenges including turning and special blocks. I enjoyed this game a lot and thought it presented me with a good amount of difficulty.

Mac or PC? Blog Post #4
Macs and PC's both have many similarities and many differences. However, PC's are often cheaper than Macs. A Mac and a PC come in both a laptop and a desktop form. A PC and a Mac have the same processor, and the same amount and type of memory. An important difference is the operating system. A PC has Microsoft Windows 7/8 and a Mac has OSX. I like Windows better personally, because it is an easier system and it is more organized. I feel like Macs have a weird and confusing mouse pad. Whenever I use a Mac, that is what holds me back from having a really enjoyable experience with it. I chose a Windows PC because they are cheaper than Macs, have better sound quality, and are easy and cheap to repair.
The End of Power Searching with Google Blog Post #3
I have learned several useful things from our classes on Power Searching with Google.
At the start of the unit, I learned that Google will give suggestions to me based on what I have searched for recently. In class four, I learned how to find facts at a quicker rate. I could use this skill to find out the time in Spain, the weather in Philadelphia, math conversions and calculations (1 +1), and even movie showings in Manhattan. At the end of the course, I learned how to maneuver Google books, how to separate searches by a specific time period, and how to filter color in Google images. I can apply everything that I learned to my life and especially school. Also I can find answers that are credible faster which will be helpful for papers, research projects and homework. I can separate searches by date which can be extremely helpful especially for History class and I can also use Google books for both History and English class. Power Searching with Google has enhanced my search skills and will help me through the course my life.

Two Skills Power Searching with Google Has Taught Me Blog Post #2
One very important skill that I learned from class one of Power Searching with Google is the ability to filter images by color. This is a very helpful skill to know because it really comes in handy especially when looking for archival images, which is what I am using it for. Another great skill that I learned from Power Searching with Google is in class two when they taught us the control f trick to find a specific word on a webpage. This makes searching much faster and way easier. I have been using it for finding sources for things.
A useful skill that I learned from class two of Power Searching with Google is the dictionary tool that Google provides. This skill is very helpful for when I do not know the meaning of a certain word. I use it when I need to find definitions for English class. The second skill that I learned from class two is the ability to refine searches by using different types of media. I use this when I search for a thing that requires you to find a specific type of media.
Cosplaying Blog Post #1
Cosplay is a performance art where participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a certain character or idea. It is short for "costume play". Most cosplays center around characters in manga, anime, comic books, video games, and films. A lot of cosplayers make their own costumes, which is a very impressive skill, at least in my opinion. I got into cosplay this past fall because of my friends and I'm so glad I did. I have cosplayed many times. Some of my cosplays include, Kanaya Maryam, Kankri Vantas, and Terezi Pyrope from Homestuck (a web-comic), Amy Pond from Doctor Who, and Abaddon from the TV show Supernatural. Cosplaying has given me a variety of experiences and friends, and for that I am overjoyed. It has also allowed me to break out of my comfort zone. I am very excited for the Anime Boston convention in March because I am eager to show off some of my new cosplays.
